NAUTILUS
THE PREMIER RELIC HUNTING MACHINE
The Nautilus metal detector has been designed to be
a superior civil war relic hunting machine from its
inception in the 1970's. Constant upgrades and industrial
leading design innovation and discrimination techniques
have resulted in the DMC IIB and the DMC IIBa detectors
which have earned their exceptional reputation in the
relic hunting community. It has field proven to be the
best brass machine and has earned the name "Button
Machine" by the folks who use it as it seems to
be able to detect the deepest buttons where all other
machines are ineffective.
With the 5" coil, it is now recognized as a superior
house site detector and is able to achieve superb depth
with even the small coil. Addition of the 15" coil
turns the machine into a superb shell, and deep plate
machine. See our tips section for recommended settings.
DMC IIB vs. DMC IIBA
The IIBA is the latest innovation from Nautilus
and automates the R&C controls which are frequently
disturbed in heavy brush and briars. The IIBA presets
the all metal and discriminate sensitivity settings
which offers less flexibility over the IIB, however
sensitivity is equal between the IIB and IIBA. The IIBA
is generally more user friendly than the IIB and approaches
a "Turn on and go" metal detector.
Tips for the IIB/IIBA:
- The 15" coil is great for plowed over hut
sites, deep shells and deep plates.
- The 6" coil is best for housesites and trashy
areas.
- I prefer autotune "on" for all detecting
with the IIB/IIBA, especially in housesites.
- It is easier to adjust the R&C controls on
the IIB with autotune "on."
- If you use only one coil, the 8" is a good
all around compromise.
- The 10" and 6" coils make the best combination.
- Higher impedance headphones e.g. 32 ohm extend
battery life considerably.
- Constant chattering most often means weak batteries.
- Larger coils (10"+) balance best with the "horseshoe" handle.
